Kurzfassung englisch:
The research presented in this study is concerned with the low relative humidity level during winter in houses with a balanced ventilation system. Low relative humidity levels have, for example, negative effects on the comfort feeling and health of the dwelling's occupants and should therefore be avoided. The study presents some methods by which the relative humidity of a dwelling can be controlled and increased.
By means of an experiment in a Viennese passive house and the results of several simulations, the effect of changing the ventilation rate, the heating strategy and the available hygroscopic material were assessed. The results suggest that the low relative humidity does not necessarily present a problem when the right adjustments are made in the dwelling. Low humidity might thus not be an obstacle for the future integration of passive houses in the European building culture.
