Kurzfassung englisch:
On main travel days the large number of passengers causes many problems for the railway company. Compared to "normal" days in each station more passengers get on or of the train and therefore needed time for stop increases. That´s why trains will easily be delayed on main travel days. On single track lines also crossing trains will be delayed because of this reason.

The main problem why the needed time for a stop grows by the number of passengers in such a way that the stop time needs too long, is a wrong design of the entrance area and of the railway interiors.
An extensive investigation done by the Institute for Railway Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology points out, how long passengers need to enter or exit a train on subject to the entrance situation (number oft steps, with), the number and kind of luggage and the age.
This investigation also shows the behaviour of passengers when they enter the train, search for a free seat and store their luggage. Because of a wrong design of most of today´s interiors the actual passenger behaviour causes many troubles for other passengers and the railway company.
This presentation will point out how a wrong entrance design, a wrong interior and also a wrong used reservation system takes an influence on the stop time and what has to be done, that trains can run on time even on main travel days with much passenger traffic.

All the topics that will be presented lead to more comfort for passengers and thus to more attractiveness on the one hand and to a much lower risk of delay and thus to more efficiency for the railway company on the other hand.
To achieve an improvement only a view small upgrades will be required!
