Kurzfassung englisch:
In the last years many trenchless projects have been designed and realized in Austria. The
Organisations responsible for trenchless technology constructing pipes, pipe lines and mains
try to focus on avoiding defects instead of repairing defects. Maintaining any mains of minor
quality is a prior long term cost factor to private and public operating companies of cities and
municipals. In this means high quality of products and construction of trenchless
underground pipes is an important public concern. The Austrian Association of Gas and
Water and the Austrian Association for Trenchless Technology are busy developing a quality
management system for prequalification of products such as pipes, fittings, shafts and similar,
general qualification criteria for construction companies specialised on trenchless technology
and also training programs for specialists in no dig construction. This paper describes the
Austrian situation in the sphere of the European community implementing a system of
qualifying programs which do not collide with European tender conditions and Austrian
contact award legislation. The main rules and regulations with its intentions and contents as
well as the main requirements and skills needed to get a certificate but also some resistances
against this campaign are to be presented in this paper. First results indicate different
expectations of the involved parties but although show the future way for self-controlled
quality management.
